Naming your dog can be tricky. You want a name that is meaningful and unique but also easy to yell across the dog park.
Most pet parents choose human names
Pet parents embraced their role more than ever this year. 2015 saw a 25 percent increase in the number of pet parents naming their fur babies human names. This is not surprising since 94 percent of pet owners consider their pets a part of the family. Baby names are just another way of showing our commitment to our canine companions.
Movie inspiration
In 2015, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Star Wars all saw an increase in pet names — not surprising considering the recent release of Mockingjay – Part 2 and the upcoming newest installment in the Star Wars saga.
Meanwhile, we saw fewer dogs (and children) named Khaleesi, inspired by everyone’s favorite Game of Thrones dragon queen. The Walking Dead is marching down as well, giving us fewer Michonnes and Maggies in the dog park. Twilight is holding steady, with Bella still the top female dog name of 2015. Team Edward and Team Jacob, on the other hand, are losing players.
